Happy Easter

"Hope can spring up in the most unlikely places. The Easter story is one of hope. It's a familiar story for us. As horrible as as the crucifixion story is, we know that it is not the end for Jesus. He will rise again after three days and the mission he began will become a worldwide movement. After his death on the cross, his disciples are heartbroken and afraid. They believe that it is all over. I love reading about the post-resurrection appearances of Jesus. His disciples are afraid at first but their fear soon turns to joy when they find out that Jesus is really with them - in the flesh. The current troubles of the Christian church feel like we are closer to a Good Friday in our faith than Easter Sunday. So many churches are closing. Religion no longer has the influence it used to have in society. It feels like we are in a locked room waiting for Jesus to appear. Mark Twain reacted to a false report of his own death saying "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." The same is true for the church. Our faith is grounded in the belief resurrection is possible. It happened for Jesus. It will happen for his church. Amen to that!

Wesley Centre English Conversation Circle – Volunteers Needed

The English Conversation Circle provides a comfortable zone where newcomers practice their English language speaking skills in a safe and supportive environment. ECCs are important tools for newcomers to gain more confidence in general communication and to make informed decisions in job search and settlement in their new country. Volunteers are needed for 1 hour every Tuesday in a virtual setting. Please contact Suzan Alsaheb at suzan.al-saheb@wesley.ca for more details. Want to see what the Wesley centre does? Click on the link words in green:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

This is the first and greatest commandment.

And the second is like it:

‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39
